General Note: Tae Kwon Do, also coined Korean Karate, like many martial arts, is an ancient form of hand-to-hand combat utilizing hand striking and foot striking as well as blocking(defending) in such a way that places the attacker in an open position for counter attack. This is true for most martial arts such as karate and kung fu. The practice of martial arts, by any name, requires discipline and commitment. A master of Kung Fu, or a master of Karate, or a master of Tae Kwon Do can all be seen as experts in the martial arts no matter their origin. Though these martial arts have similar defense and survival uses, their style of expressing the goal is strongly culture-based.
